January 2026 Edition

Celebrating 100 years of the Royal Canadian Legion

As we wrap up this edition of The 187 Dispatch, it feels fitting to look beyond our own branch and reflect on a milestone that unites every member across the country. In 2026, the Royal Canadian Legion will celebrate its 100th anniversary — a century of service, remembrance, and community leadership.

For nearly a hundred years, the Legion has stood as a steadfast voice for Veterans and their families, a guardian of remembrance, and a pillar in communities from coast to coast. Dominion Command has already launched the official Centenary branding,

which will be seen throughout the anniversary year. It marks not just the passage of time, but the enduring strength of an organization built on compassion, volunteerism, and a commitment to supporting those who served.

As Dominion President Berkley Lawrence shared, the Legion enters its 100th year “honoured to still be going strong,” carrying forward the mission first set by its founders in 1926. That mission continues today in every branch — including ours.

Here at Branch 187, we are proud to be part of this legacy. Every event we host, every donation we approve, every member who walks through our doors contributes to a century‑long story of service and community. From supporting Veterans to strengthening local families, from preserving traditions to welcoming new generations, we are one chapter in a much larger Canadian story.

As we look ahead to the Legion’s centenary year, we do so with gratitude for the past and excitement for the future. The next 100 years will be shaped by the same values that brought us this far — respect, remembrance, and community spirit.

What an honour it is to be part of it.
